Aretha Franklin’s Song ‘A Natural Woman’ Deemed Offensive To Trans Women By LGBTQ Activist Group
Aretha Franklin‘s hit song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” is being criticized by an LGBTQ activist group.
Norway-based Trans Cultural Mindfulness Alliance took to Twitter last week to condemn the song, citing that it has ignited harm against transgender women and that it should be removed from streaming platforms.
The organization tweeted,
“Aretha Franklin’s 1968 song ‘Natural Woman’ perpetuates multiple harmful anti-trans stereotypes. There is no such thing as a ‘natural’ woman.”
The message continued,
“The song has helped inspire acts of harm against transgender women. TCMA is requesting it is removed from Spotify & Apple Music.”
Twitter users were outraged and appeared offended by the message, with many criticizing the organization. One user wrote,
“OMG Get a life & stop trying to cancel everything. How sad and pathetic one’s life must be if THIS is a priority to you. This is a GREAT song! YOU GO, GIRL! @ArethaFranklin.”
Another person said,
“I AM A PROUD NATURAL WOMAN! Except my boobs, those are fake! Everything else – 100% au naturale!”

Others were so taken aback that they actually thought TCMA’s statement was coming from a parody account, questioning the legitimacy of the page itself.
One user said,
“These parody accounts keep getting funnier. Keep the jokes coming!”
Another person said,
“I can’t tell if this is satire, that’s where we are now.”
The organization later clarified that they are indeed a legitimate account and not a parody.
“For clarification, the TCMA is not a parody organization,’ it read, adding that the organizers ‘are a group of trans individuals seeking to make culture more fair for transgender individuals. We are based in Norway but are seeking to open a chapter in each European country and also North America.”
