Megan Thee Stallion Claims 1501 Certified Entertainment Is ‘Harassing’ Roc Nation’s CEO

The drama between Megan Thee Stallion and her estranged record label 1501 Certified Entertainment lives to see another day.

According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has requested a protective order for Desiree Perez, Roc Nation’s CEO, in her ongoing legal battle with 1501. Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyers criticized 1501 for issuing a subpoena to Perez, claiming it was an “underhanded tactic.”

The attorneys reportedly said,

“1501 does not seek relevant, admissible evidence because Perez does not have any.”

They added,

“Rather, 1501 is intent on harassing Perez and disrupting her responsibilities as CEO of Roc Nation. But Texas law does not give 1501 a license to use discovery for these purposes. The apex doctrine is applicable where, as here, a party seeks to distract a senior executive from their duties to sit for an improper deposition.”

As previously reported, Megan Thee Stallion has been engaged in a heated legal battle against Carl Crawford and his record label since March 2020. The Texas native has been pretty vocal over the years about no longer wishing to work with Crawford.

In February, Megan filed a lawsuit against the independent label for a minimum of one million dollars in damages, claiming the label refused to compensate her for her share of the royalties from her music. She added that her second studio album “Traumazine” satisfied the quota of her record deal with 1501, amid seeking the assistance of a Texas court to end her “burdensome” relationship with the Houston label.

Reportedly, 1501 wants to question Roc Nation’s CEO in the case. But Megan’s legal team is claiming that a deposition of Perez would be “improper.”

The legal documents state,

“As set forth in the affidavit, Perez has no unique knowledge relevant to this action and her deposition is not reasonably likely to lead to relevant evidence. The claims and defenses at issue in this case involve two primary disputes: (1) the accounting between Pete and 1501; and (2) the contractual dispute regarding whether Pete’s two latest albums satisfy her recording commitments under the Artist Agreement. Perez does not have unique or superior knowledge regarding either.”

Megan’s legal team added that even though Perez has “some knowledge” of the rapper’s general affairs, Roc Nation CEO doesn’t handle her finances. They’re seeking a protective order for Perez because they don’t believe the CEO can provide relevant testimony regarding 1501’s album agreement.
